About Nimble Toolbox
Nimble Toolbox is a small collection of 154 everyday utilities: converting an image, tidying a JSON payload, counting the words in a draft. Things you usually need once and in a hurry, and should not have to install anything for.
It is built and run by Brent Butkow, a software engineer. You can read more about me and my other projects at brentbutkow.me.
Everything runs in your browser
Most tools like these upload your file to a server, do the work there, and hand back a download link. That means your holiday photos and your unpublished draft pass through somebody else's machine on the way.
Nothing here works that way. Every tool runs inside your browser, so your files never leave your device. Disconnect from the internet once a page has loaded and its tool keeps working, which is an easy way to check the claim for yourself.
A few tools are the exception, because their engines are too big to send with every page. They fetch the parts they need from this site the first time they need them, such as the data for reading text in a particular language or a package your document loads, and your browser keeps those parts for next time. Offline, a tool like that can use only what it has already fetched. Those downloads are the tool's own code and data, and nothing you open is sent anywhere.
What it costs
Nothing, and there is no account to create. The plan is to cover the running costs with advertising, so at some point you may see an ad underneath a tool. Never above it, and never in a popup. You should not have to hunt for the button you came here to press.
